Regular maintenance of your carpet will help make deep cleaning it easier. Carpets need to be vacuumed once a week and more often in areas that are prone ot dirt. This will prolong the life of your carpet and prevent a build-up of dirt.
Using powder is a great way to clean your carpet. Baking soda can be used or commercial powders

Sprinkle the powder liberally over the carpets.
Leave the powder for at least 30 minutes – but if you can leave overnight, all the better – this time gives the cleaner a change to work, softening the stains and consuming the odours.
Vacuum the powder when you’re done
How to use Carpet Shampoo:

Make up the solution as directed.
Use just enought Carpet shampoo to cover the area
Don’t make the Carpet to wet – it will increase drying time
Scrub on the particularly stubborn areas using a hard- bristled brush.
Let the Carpet dry
Vacum the shampoo once it has dried.
Wine stain tips:

It may seem counter intuitive, but more wine can actually be the answer. White wine can help neutralise red wine stains on carpet, diluting the colour and making it easier to lift and gently remove red wine stain from carpet fibres.
The same reasoning applies to club soda.
Blot up as much of the stain as possible. A gentle lifting motion will stop you from pressing the stain deeper into the carpet, but will soak up the top layer of wine and the worst of the colour.
Sprinkle salt into the stain. Salt will help draw out the moisture, so pour enough to absort the wine, with an additional layer for good measure. Cover with paper towels and weigh it down, leaving overnight for the best results.
Vacuum your carpet to clean up the salt, and voila: one wine-free, stain-free carpet suitable for any host or homeowner to sit back and relax in
